This was also my first (and probably last) attempt at getting myself in the picture. This was my first site of the year as it's the closest one to my home and made for a quick and easy run for my now dearly departed KLR (shortly after this I decided to trade it in for something a bit more 'road worthy' since I'm not doing any serious off-road type riding and on the long rides between the dirt the KLR is less than ideal). After Shoofly, we looped around to hit Utter Disaster. Turkey vultures, antelope, Marines, and long, long vistas. There is a nice dirt road that follows a powerline that is called Baja Road. ![]() We went to Swan Falls and then southeast road across the desert to the Grand View Highway (167) to get here. Oldnut and friends, actually relatives, rode the Owyhee Uplands Scenic Byway yesterday and we stopped to catch this site and admire the rock formations. They did a good job of explaining ooids and how they form and if you have time to hike the interpretive trail you should do it since oolites are pretty interesting rocks. As a geologist I am always interested in this kind of stuff. English: Petrified wood from the Shoofly Oolite Formation near Mountain Home, Idaho. Contemplated hitting the Oreana Cutoff to come down but ended up slabbing it instead.
